HIGHLAND TRAILS LLC

AVAILABLE POSITIONS:

APPRENTICE TRAIL BUILDER
  • Approximately 40 hours a week, starting mid-March through mid-November
  • Monday through Friday 7:00 am through 3:30 pm
  • Expected Pay $15.00 – $20.00/hr depending on experience.

 Who We Are Looking For:

The candidate for Highland Trails Apprentice will have some experience in building and maintaining trails, be in good physical shape and be comfortable using various hand tools. Basic bike handling skills and a desire to ride at Highland are a must. The role will include, but is not limited to:

  • Build and maintain trails ranging from Freeride flow trails to Technical downhill trails.
  • Complete tasks assigned by a Highland Trails Master or Journeyman Trail Builder.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to take and follow direction.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of people.
  • Self-directed, requiring minimal supervision.
  • Experience in building and maintaining trails.
  • Ability to use hand tools for trail maintenance and building.
  • Basic chain saw use and maintenance experience considered an asset.
  • Highland Mountain trail knowledge considered an asset.

JOURNEYMAN LEVEL ONE
  • Approximately 40 hours a week
      • Monday through Friday 7:00am – 3:30pm.
        • Seasonal mid-April through November 15th.
        • Year Round
      • PayScale based on experience.
        • Starting Range $20/hr.
        • Ending Range $26/hr.
    • Who We Are Looking For:
  • The Candidate for Highland Trails Journeyman will have experience building and maintaining trails, equipment operation of excavators and skid steers, and have the ability to lead a group of Apprentice trail builders. The ability to ride a wide range of Bike Park trails and features. The role will include, but is not limited to:
        • Build and maintain trails ranging from Freeride flow trails, Technical downhill trails to multi use trails.
        • Operate machinery to build and maintain trails.
        • Lead a team of apprentice trail builders.
        • Complete tasks assigned by a lead builder. Works with team 
    • Level One Skills Required
      • Excavator experience.
        • Must be able to operate excavation equipment.
        • Must have experience riding mountain bike trails.
        • Has worked as an apprentice trail builder.
        • Experience building trails with excavators is desired but not necessary.
  • Must be able to work outside the machine when needed.
      • Basic maintenance and repair of excavators.
        • Check oils, filters, etc.
        • Replace tracks, hydraulic hoses, etc., while working in the field.
    • Ability to lift 60lbs off the ground.
    • Ability to give direction to Apprentice trail builders.
    • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of people.
    • Self-directed, requiring minimal supervision.
  • Complete tasks assigned by a Highland Trails Master Builder.
  • Must know how to safely use a chainsaw and cut large trees.
  • Highland Mountain trail knowledge is considered an asset.

JOURNEYMAN LEVEL TWO
  • Approximately 40 hours a week
      • Monday through Friday 7:00am – 3:30pm.
        • Seasonal mid-April through November 15th.
        • Year Round
      • PayScale based on experience.
        • Starting Range $26/hr.
        • Ending Range $32/hr.
    • Who We Are Looking For:
  • The Candidate for Highland Trails Journeyman Level Two will have experience building and maintaining trails, equipment operation of excavators and skid steers, and have the ability to lead a group of Apprentice trail builders. Ability to ride all green, blue and black ttrails at the Bike Park a must. The role will include, but is not limited to:
      • 1 to 5 years building Freeride and Tech trails including rollers, berms and jumps.
      • Operate machinery to build and maintain trails.
      • Lead a team of apprentice trail builders.
      • Ability to work and plan strategy with the team leaders / Master operators.
  • Skills Required
    • Level One Journeyman.
    • Ability to assess and manage water flow.
    • Ability to act as a Project Lead and manage:
      • Apprentice trail builders.
      • Level One Journeyman operators.
    • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of people.
    • Self-directed, requiring minimal supervision.
    • Must know how to safely use a chainsaw and cut large trees.
    • Highland Mountain trail knowledge is considered an asset.

MASTER BUILDER
  • Approximately 40 hours a week
      • Monday through Friday 7:00am – 3:30pm.
        • Seasonal mid-April through November 15th.
        • Year Round
        • Contracted Labor
      • Minimal starting pay – $32/hr.
      • Bonus incentive.
    • Who We Are Looking For:
  • The Candidate for Highland Trails Master Builder will have experience building and maintaining trails, equipment operation of excavators and skid steers, and have the ability to lead a group of Apprentice and Journeyman trail builders. Strong bike handling skills are a must. The role will include, but is not limited to:
      •  5 Years building and maintaining all styles and levels of trails.
        • Technical
        • Freeride
        • Wood features construction and maintenance.
        • All terrain types.
      • Operate machinery to build and maintain trails.
      • Lead a team of apprentice and Journeyman Level one and Level two trail builders.
      • Ability to work and plan strategy with other team leaders.
  • Skills Required
    • Level Two Journeyman.
    • Design all levels and styles of mountain bike trails from start to finish.
      • Use of GPS, Clinometer, etc., to assist in mapping trail alignments.
      • Bike Park trails, municipal parks, private landowners.
      • Experience building trails in varied conditions, terrain profiles and terrain types.
    • Ability to act as a Project Lead and manage:
      • Apprentice trail builders.
      • Level One and Level Two Journeyman builders.
    • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of people.
    • Self-directed, requiring minimal supervision.
    • Must know how to safely use a chainsaw and cut large trees.
    • Highland Mountain trail knowledge is considered an asset.
