You’ll find all of the details on this page. Check out last year’s event recap to revisit the chaos and the glory of the 2021 Woolly, and get ready to do it all over again. We’ll see you out there!

FAT BIKES

This is a fat bikes only event. Tires must be 3.8” or wider. We do allow studded tires.

We will not have rentals or demos available onsite.

OPEN TRAILS

The main draw of the Winter Woolly is access to groomed DH trails in the winter. As for which trails will be open? That’s a decision that Mother Nature gets to make for us. Anticipated trails are as follows:

    • Freedom Trail
    • Meadows End
    • Cat Scratch
    • Cats Paw
    • Upper NE Style
    • Lower Happy Hour
    • Hellion

Our XC network will be free and open to ride. All XC trails are currently groomed and riding great! Be sure to check out the newly extended 820 while you’re out there.

FOOD & BEVERAGE

The Highland Pub will be open and serving up your favorites from 8am to 8pm. Visit the Exit 19 bar in the backyard all afternoon for beverages and sampling from our friends at — get this — Fat Tire Brewing.

RACING

The Winter Woolly DH Fat Bike Race is a highlight of every winter, and we don’t expect this one to be any different. Race against your friends, against the elements, against mankind’s hubris…just don’t be afraid to hit the snow.

This is an open class race, with the top three finishers taking home prizes and bragging rights. (And probably a little extra snow in their pants.) Race registration is available as a $15 add-on to your event registration. Limited to 80 participants. SOLD OUT

Race trail is TBD (see: Mother Nature) but has traditionally been Upper NE Style to Lower Happy Hour. We’ll keep you posted.

BE PREPARED

Winter Woolly conditions have always been variable! We recommend coming prepared with multiple layers (and probably a set of dry clothes.)

The Winter Woolly is the first day of riding in 2022, which means everyone participating needs to get a new Highland waiver verified. To help our fabulous Welcome Center staff keep the line moving in the morning, fill out your waiver online in advance and have your photo ID ready when you check in!

We expect that parking will be tight, so we recommend carpooling if possible.

MORE FAT BIKING

What’s better than one fat biking event? How about three fat biking events? Keep an eye on MTBVT for all of the details about Uberwintern (Jan 22) and Winterbike (Mar 5), coming soon!
