It’s a new year and—finally—we have some snow! With less than three weeks until the Winter Woolly, we’re getting excited not only for the midwinter downhill laps but also to see the Highland Family back at the mountain for some good old-fashioned Winter Woolly shenanigans.

We’ve been keeping busy through the winter with our usual off-season pursuits (playing pond hockey, making turns at Ragged, keeping the seats warm in the Highland Pub) and planning ahead for another great season. Read on for updates on the Central Park lift installation, 2022 Mug Club, Winter Woolly, and more.

Once a year, we gather the Highland Family in the middle of the winter and fire up the lift for a day spent enjoying whatever Mother Nature decides to serve us. Join us Saturday, February 5 for this year’s Winter Woolly, our annual lift-accessed fat biking event.

With miles of groomed downhill and XC trails, beer tasting, fat bike racing, and a scavenger hunt, this event is not one to be missed. There will be laughter. There will be chaos. Layer up and get after it!

Learn more and register here. This is a fat bikes only event. All tires must be 3.8″ or wider.

Now onto the Central Park update! After a break for the holidays, the crew has been making significant progress on the surface lift installation. With the first few sections now in place, it’s much easier to visualize what the final product will look like:

Once fully installed this lift will service the Central Park area of the mountain, which was previously only accessible by hiking or cutting in from intermediate downhill trails. Central Park is home to some great beginner terrain and multiple scaled features to encourage progression, but neither of its previous access options were particularly welcoming to young kids or new riders. The addition of the surface lift will allow more riders to take advantage of all the skill-building this area of the mountain has to offer.

If you’ve never spent any time on this area of the mountain, check out this video for an introduction. Don’t expect it to look exactly the same when you show up to ride this year, though—Central Park will be getting a significant makeover to accommodate the addition of the lift. More on that in the spring!

In the meantime, the operations team is hard at work moving steadily through our list of off-season mountain improvement projects. The lower level of the lodge has been getting the attention in recent weeks, with freshly painted floors and the beginning stages of a bathroom renovation. Not quite as flashy as a new lift, but still a change we can all look forward to.

Upstairs in the lodge, the Highland Pub is open and serving up your favorites every weekend! Stop by any time from 3pm to 8pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

MUG CLUB: Current Mug Club members have until Friday, February 4th to renew their membership for 2022. An email was sent to all existing members a couple of weeks ago with instructions for renewal. Renew in person at the pub during operating hours, or over the phone by calling the pub directly at (603) 630-0867. (This is different from our main mountain line.)
