Another month, another park report. You might be wondering “what’s the point of a park report from Highland in the winter?” but here’s the thing: none of us ever learned to slow down, and a little thing like the off-season isn’t going to catch us pumping the brakes. (And maybe we like the sound of our own voice. What of it?)
We made quite a few changes to the landscape in 2021, including the backyard container deck, the Find Your Ride shed, and the addition of Lower NE Style and Lunch Lady to the trail map. This winter we’re putting most of our focus into the Central Park expansion and extension of 820. Check out some of the recent progress in Central Park:
The installation of the new surface lift is at a point in the process where it’s starting to take on a more recognizable shape. These photos are from Monday morning, and it already looks very different up there. The crew began pouring concrete for the foundation of the top terminal on Monday night–an operation to behold, let us tell you.
We’re very excited not only to be able to better utilize Central Park’s features in our training programs, but also to make it more accessible to all of you. The addition of the lift will obviously require a redesign of Central Park’s overall layout–more on that in the coming months.
Meanwhile, the ops team is keeping busy with this winter’s list of mountain improvement and maintenance projects: sealing the floors, rebuilding the summit bike racks, emptying the foam pit, et cetera. We’ll be looking if not well-rested, at least refreshed when you see us next. Speaking of…
Registration is open for the 2022 Winter Woolly! Join us on Saturday, February 5th for a fat-tastic good time. One day only, we spin the lift in the middle of the off-season for downhill fat biking. It’s a Highland event like no other, with groomed DH and XC trails, fat bike racing, and any other mischief we can come up with.
One fat biking event is never enough, so be sure that you also mark your calendars for Uberwintern (Jan 22) and Winterbike (Mar 5). More details coming soon from MTBVT.
Enrollment is also open for our 2022 summer camp programs! We offer two different multi-day summer camps for riders of all levels of experience. Enroll during the month of December to take advantage of a $100 Early Bird discount. (Session 2 is very close to selling out, so if that’s your preferred week don’t hesitate to grab your spot.)
HIGHLAND PUB WINTER HOURS

That’s all for now! If you’re missing the mountain…come visit. Excluding holidays, we’re still here every day of the week. As always, the XC network remains free and open to the public. The weather here hasn’t gotten the winter memo yet, so we don’t have to either.
Sending our best wishes to you and yours for a wonderful holiday season!
